The "Deads Poets Society" is really me best film. I love all on the
movie! For me, he beat "Titanic" and much film without really feel and
with the end very thinking. And also, the casting is fabulous! The guys
are energic, funny....very realist. I look the movie each 2 weeks. I hope
make my web site on the film. I discover he film since 4-5 years and I

Thanks for these pages! I´m now stadying film- and tv-production

From my point of view Peter Weir has made some of the best films ever
including "Picnic at Hanging Rock", "Dead Poems Society", "Gallipoli" and
"The Year of Living Dangerously". These films are witty, moving and thought-provoking.
They hold you spellbound throughout and make you forget your environment.
His usage of film music, the pace and the created mood in his films are
still unachieved.

I was pleased to see i'm not the only person that likes Peter Weir's
films. I am 12 years old and I was reasearching him for a project. Yours
was the only internet site I could find. I like your site.

Dead Poets Society is without a doubt oen of the best, and most touching
stories ever told. It is true to life and overwhelmingly powerful. I have
just recently acquired a copy and I cherish it. Thank you Peter Wier and
thank you Robin Williams for a wond rful gift.

Hi, My name is Darcy and I'm writing about Dead Poets Society. I tried
to email the webmaster a while ago but I guess he didn't receive it or
something so I thought I'd sign the guestbook which tends to work better
than emails, generally. The URL I put ere leads to a website that I have
made that is dedicated to two stars of DPS and I was wondering if perhaps
a link could be added on the cast info page? It's called darcy's GALE HANSEN/JOSH
CHARLES page and I've got a lot of original screen captures fro DPS...
and I've got a link for the DPS site here... Thanks, that's all... *griN*

This is a site that I definately will bookmark! I've been a Weir fan
for 19 years (I'll never forget the chilling thrill of seeing "the Last
Wave" for the first time at a movie theater!)and have found him not only
to be the most innovative, interesting, c allenging, and HUMAN director
around but, in my opinion ,one of the very BEST directors of all time when
it comes to being CONSISTENTLY great! I havn't had much of a chance to
look through the whole site yet (I'm just about to rush out) but I can
see that you are doing a great job in covering all the wonderful facets
of his career (special thanks for including a page about his choices in
music f r films!)! Keep up the good work!

ah! what a great movie - i saw gallipoli today. weir says this -- death
is a charming phenomenon(not just interesting) ; man and nature inter-act
in straaange supernatural ways; and some of us are anal - examples: the
english in 'gallipoli' and the principal in 'picnic at hanging rock'

Hi there - always wondered if anyone was as much as Peter Weir fan
as myself. I think your page is good stuff and I think your succint response
to The Truman Show is right on the money. Fearless, DPS, TMQ and Witness
are gold dust. Can you imaginbe if Wei made a western ? COngratulations
on such a good site - it gets straight to the point, is easy to get around
and conveys your genuine enthusiasm for your subject. All the best J. Clarke
Comments:
"Fearless" and "The Mosquitio Coast" are two of my favorite movies.
They're also films I find not many people have seen, but whenever I make
someone sit down and watch them I create instant Peter Weir fans. Then,
when I explain that this man also made " itness", "Dead Poets Society",
and "The Truman Show" they realize that they were already fans and just
didn't know it. Weir is ferociously underrated here in the U.S., but those
of us who do know him tend to LOVE him. This website is a fitting tribute
t that kind of love and appreciation.

Hi ! I have been a fan of PW since the early 1980s, and as a teacher
in 1990 remember trying to sensitise my high school students to his films.
It is therefore with a feeling of great aspiration that I write to ask
whether I could somehow send a message t Mr Weir. I have some film script
ideas that I think may turn out to be great PW films, and would like to
communicate with him in this regard. If you think this request idiotic,
please flush it. Thanks and best wishes Ramaswamy

If I were not already married, I would find this mysterious David Nicholson

I love Peter Weir films and was lucky enough to go to an Australian
film
festival in Montreay a few years ago. Saw Picnic at Hanging Rock and
would
like to see it again but cannot find it anywhere. When will it be released
widely on video? In fact, all his early work should be widely released.

-Sunday, June 07, 1998 at 02:36:11 (ADT)
Once, three or four years ago, I was watching a rerun of the
Twilight Zone. This episode was about a man who finds out his life
is a
TV show when his bathroom mirror falls off. TV camera's have been
scatered around his house, in his car, and so on. He got his job
because of them, his wife because of them, and so on. Now does this
remind you of a certain movie. The exact storyline may be different,
but the overall idea is the same.

How can I possibly find Picnic at Hanging Rock? Does Peter Weir know how many people would buy his movie in video format if it were to be re-released?(apparently you can find it in European video format--which begs the question--why has no one simply recorded a VHS copy from the European format?)
-Thursday, May 28, 1998 at 12:27:05 (ADT)
I really enjoyed your home page. Dead poets society is my favorite movie as well. I entered here because I had to do a few works about a movie, for UNI, and I chose this one. Well... have good luck on your work. Grazi.

I love DPS and it surprises me how many other people love it too. I
would like to commend Mr.Schuman for an excellent screenplay. I think that
is what made the movie. Also the actors gave such heart pounding performances,
it would be wrong not to commend the director,Peter Weir, also. If you
have any more info. on any of the actors (especially Gale Hansen) please
e-mail me. I would be truly greatful. I love the movie so much that a friend
and I each took quotes from the movie and put it in our yearbook as our
favorite quotes of all time. My quote was "Carpe Diem! Seize the day! Make
your lives extraordinary!" All but the "Carpe Diem!," part got cut out.
Thank you for a terrific page and I know where I can go when I get DPS
cravings. If you remember the name of the soundtrack it would make me extremely
happy. I also love the movie Witness and I can't say anything about the
other films because I haven't seen any. I will go see The Truman Show and
expect great things from it. Thanks again! :-) -KellyAnne(KAE or Wisdom2)
Plan to visit the page again very soon. My brother has the movie,DPS,
on tape but won't let me watch it again. It is starting to wear out. He's
watched his tape 3 times and I have watched it about 7 times (twice without
him knowing)
Gotta go! Please keep up the good work.

It's really great that you set up this site. I was totally surprised
to find an entire site devoted to Peter Weir, whom I think is an excellent
director.
Dead Poets' Society is one of the most inspiring movies ever made.
I've heard tons of wonderful reviews for the Truman Show, and I'm dying
to catch it when it opens here in Singapore (goodness knows when though!)
Hope you keep this site going on forever!

I am a big movie fan and consider myself to be quite a critic. I have been excited about the Truman Show, and recently watched Fearless again. It dawned on me for the first time that, perhaps, Weir was one of my favorite directors. So I thought I'd look to see if there was anything out there on him. And here you are! I will definitely be watching the rest of his films soon to see if I am right! Thanks.

Thanks for the site. I just saw a preview of "The Truman Show,"

Peter Weir. What a guy. What a director. And who couldn't love Dead Poet's Society? But apparently I'm wrong because some sadistic, conceited, demented and idiotic reviewers (Not mentioning any names..... Mick Martin and Marsha Porter) only gave the movie three and a half stars. The Bastards.

Great site. I particularly love Picnic at Hanging rock so it was
good to be able to find out where to get videos soundtracks etc.
His films are so extraordinary, yet he's never had the celebrity
personality of kubrick or cohens et al.which is nice. He remains a
bit of a mystery..

quite informative
-Monday, April 06, 1998 at 09:56:34 (ADT)
I think also Peter Weir is the best director out there. "Fearless",
I can't think of a word to describe...I have been there...a different situation...
I was a teacher in an art College. When the scene in "Dead Poets Society"when
The Teacher is bringimg the art out , or allowing it to surfice made my
stomach turn over. This experience I have been lucky to have a few times.
The look and feeling coming from Robin Williams face and body was it. I
often wonder how Mr Williams knew this experience. It is the essence of
teaching and a feeling of joy.

Correction on last entry: "Weir is *indeed* an artist."
Also, to the creator of this great page:
The link to your e-mail wasn't working and I couldn't read your whole
addy, so here's the message: I really like this page. Peter Weir is one
of my favorite filmmakers, one who continually makes excellent, above-par
films. Being an aspiring filmmaker myself, Weir inspires me with each viewing
of every film he's made. You've probably heard this before, but is there
*any* possible way to buy a copy of Picnic at Hanging Rock? I've only found
it to rent at a really excellent store near Atlanta, but I've heard it's
out of print and has been for some time now. Let me know; the cinematography
in that film is wonderful and the tone is so eerie. I loved it. Thanks
once again for the work you've put into this page. Have you seen a screening
of The Truman Show yet? It is amazing!! Weir has made another classic -
with Jim Carrey to boot!
-Friday, April 03, 1998 at 01:37:47 (AST)
Great page for a great director! Weir has been on my short list of director's to watch and study since Dead Poets' blew me away back in 1989. I just saw The Truman Show (a preview screening) and happened upon this page when I was searching. Every one of his films makes me think and they have a deep impact on my psyche. He is *indeed* and artist.

I've always thought Peter Weir was one of the most conceptually beautiful
directors out there, always remembering to include the smallest of details.
The Amish emerging from the cornfield in "Witness" remains one of my favorite
scenes from anything, and "The Year of Living Dangerously" continues to
amaze me over and over. Thanks for the site.

Very nice site! I wanted to learn a bit more about Weir
since our community theatre group will be performing
"Picnic at Hanging Rock" at the end of March 1998
(see our webpage for info). The director and I were very
impressed by his directorial and creative skills in the
movie and hope to bring the same mystery to our play as
he did to his movie. I think he's a very talented director
and his use of symbolism in Hanging Rock is terrific!

Please say Hullo to Peter & Wendy, I was a mechanic working for
my father the late Harry Handley of Mona Vale
in the old days when Peter & Wendy were doing it tough .
My Dad & I had great faith in Peter and actualy helped out with
parts for the movie The Cars that eat Paris.
Great stuff Peter & Wendy hope you have continued success , the
hard road paid off , I have some idea know of what you were going through
your early dreams etc as I know have dreams for my daughter who is a singer
and going very well performing all over N.S.W , Brigitte is a keen fan
of your work and thinks it's cool that I did once work on your cars , The
Mk2 Cortina when you lived at Newport. what ever happened to your friend
the guy who lived on scotland island and did documentaries for the ABC
Trains ans stuff like that? Kind Regars Terry Handley and family

I'm supossed to do an analysis on my favourite movie ever for class. I'm studin' Visual Arts. And though Apocalipse Now, Citizen Kane, Usual Suspects and Star Wars are right up there, Fearless tops them all. I just finished watching it again -no comment-. Weir's also one of my fav. directors along with Tim Burton and Luis Buñuel, just too Great. Nice page, Abarr

"Until now I thought I was alone in my immense love for the films of Peter Weir, a man who I feel still goes unnoticed by many as one of the best filmmakers of the late 20th century. You page was a blessing to me and I am grateful to you for creating it."

I'm probably as huge a Weir fan as you are. The first film I can remember really watching as a child is The Last Wave. It's stuck with me for a long time. Are there any w/s editions of Picnic out there? John...

I search around looking for stuff in preparing the program notes for my Film Society. Last year I selected Dead Poets and needed pictures and comments. Hence I got to your cave. I've been involved in film for some time, but not professionally. Made the decision to go into science and film is a hobby. Probably the right choice but the still tugs at the heart strings.
cheers,

found you while trying to get background info on Gallipoli--one of my favorite movies. I teach high school American & World history, & always show Gallipoli as my World War I movie. Guess I've seen in about 20 times, & always enjoy it, & cry a bit when Archie goes "over the top." your peter weir page is very informative--i've enjoyed several of his films. thanks for a good page.

For all of you fans of "DEAD POETS SOCIETY": Ethan Hawke (Todd Anderson) and Walt Whitman cross paths in the WW2 movie "A Midnight Clear." This isn't an action movie. It's a deep and thoughtful look at life and death. Ethan's character Will Knott tells Peter Berg's character Bud Miller that he must be more careful about the way he lights cigarettes while on guard duty otherwise a German soldier may put a bullet in his head while he's pretending to be Walt Whitman. Bud is a poet at heart. The movie is based on William Wharton's novel of the same name. Get the book and the movie and pay attention to the way Sam Phillips sings "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear" at the end of the movie. PK

I love this movie. This is the type of movie that you just can't forget about. After you have seen it once you want to watch it agian because each time you see it just gets better and better. Also, I love the little things the guys do in the move like when Knox does his turn walking towards Chris. It just makes me wonder if there are guys out there like them that would do such caring things.

It's so nice to see that there are others who feel that Peter Weir is perhaps one of the greatest director ever!! This Web site, like a Peter Weir film, is WELL DONE!! keep up the good work. "Fearless" is probably my favorite film of the 90's, what motivated me to go to film school!
