Peter Weir Peter Weir was born on August 21st, 1944 in Sydney, Australia. He studied arts and law at the University of Sydney, where he appeared in and wrote for undergraduate revues, but dropped out at the age of nineteen to enter his father's real estate business. After a year and a half, he had saved up enough money to buy a ticket to Europe and travelled by boat to London, a trip which lasted five weeks. During the journey, he met his future wife, Wendy Stites. To help pass the time on the long journey, he and several others began a "shipboard revue" to entertain the other passengers. He was terribly excited by the experience and once in London the group continued to use their creativity. He worked as a clerk in a theatrical booking agency.

In 1966, he returned home "long-haired, antiwar, married, with no money, and determined to go into theatre or television". He performed odd jobs until he got work in television at ATN 7 as a stagehand and floorsweeper. At the same time he was working with several friends in theater as a writer-performer. He began to make short films and in 1971 he returned to Europe on a study grant from the government film commission. His first feature film, "The Cars That Ate Paris" came out in 1974. He and his wife have two children, Ingrid and Julien who were born in 1973 and 1977.

Very soon this shall be a thriving Peter Weir page...
